Indicative only. A second-hand gun is worth what its condition, chambering and provenance say — these are published figures, not an offer.

Chapter 01

Overview

Benelli built its name on the inertia-driven action, and the Super Black Eagle — now in its third generation — is the waterfowl gun that action was made for. It was the first 3½-inch semi-automatic that could be relied on in the cold.

Chapter 02

How it works

Inertia rather than gas: a spring between bolt head and bolt body stores the recoil energy and drives the cycle, so the gas system that fouls in other guns simply is not there. The trade is felt recoil, which the gun does not soften, and a minimum load below which it will not cycle.

Chapter 03

In the field

Wildfowl in salt and freezing mud. It runs dirty for longer than anything gas-operated, strips to almost nothing, and the ejection is violent enough to clear a hull with ice in the chamber.
