Chapter 01

Overview

Anschütz’s small-action centrefire, shown in its German-stock 1771D form at IWA 2016 as a repeater built around the .223 Rem. family of cartridges. RifleShooter credits it with keeping the .22 Hornet alive in the Anschütz line when many small-game hunters had moved on.

Chapter 02

How it works

A short 60° bolt lift, with lugs that lock directly to the barrel — six in two rows, by all4shooters’ count — and a barrel press-fitted into the receiver. RifleShooter’s sample had an adjustable two-stage trigger breaking at 11 ounces, a two-position safety that leaves the bolt free to cycle on safe, and a detachable stainless five-round magazine.

Chapter 03

Variants

Anschütz builds it with the German stock, the Norwegian-made GRS Sporter with adjustable butt and comb, a thumbhole stock, and the DJV stock for hunting-style competition with a flush DJV magazine, plus a 170 Years Edition sold only in 2026. The hunting stocks come in .17 Hornet, .22 Hornet, .222 Rem. and .223 Rem.; Wikipedia also lists 4.6×30 and .300 BLK.

Chapter 04

In the field

all4shooters reads it as a rifle for predators and light game such as roe deer, accurate enough for precise shots at range, with a four-shot magazine in .223. RifleShooter thought the Hornet a fine small-game rifle but, at a published 7 lb 9 oz, heavy for a walking varminter.
