Chapter 01

Overview

Anschütz’s full-size centrefire hunting rifle, which Rifle Magazine describes as an upgraded version of the earlier 1780. The maker sells it as a rifle of only wood and steel at heart, and guarantees three shots inside 28 mm.

Chapter 02

How it works

Six locking lugs in two rows of three — the forward three wider than the rear — give a 60° bolt throw on a receiver milled from solid steel with an integral Picatinny rail, bedded on an aluminium action carrier with an extra recoil abutment. The 5082 trigger converts between single and two-stage, the side safety is silent, a bolt-handle lock stops the bolt opening by accident, and an optional chamber lock is offered for dog handlers.

Chapter 03

Variants

Anschütz lists the Classic, Classic PRO with adjustable comb, German stock, thumbhole, GRS Bifrost synthetic, Black Line in DLC, Gold Line in titanium nitride and Slim-Line, from .243 Win. through 6.5×55 SE, 8×57 IS and 9.3×62 to .300 Win. Mag. Barrels run from 470 to 650 mm, plain or threaded M15×1, and Wikipedia adds the 1782 APR for precision-rifle competition.

Chapter 04

In the field

A three-round steel magazine is standard and a five-shot hunting magazine optional, both released by a lever in the trigger guard. Shooting UK found 100-grain .243 loads from the 20.5-inch barrel short of the energy Scotland asks for large deer and pointed to the 23-inch barrel, and weighed the rifle at 3.4 kg.
