Indicative only. A second-hand gun is worth what its condition, chambering and provenance say — these are published figures, not an offer.

Chapter 01

Overview

The B525 first appeared in 2003 as the successor to the highly popular B425, built for Browning by Miroku in Japan. Each gun is hand-finished as it moves from one gunsmith to the next, with barrels, action and forend fitted the traditional way, with red ochre.

Chapter 02

How it works

A deep forged-steel boxlock jointed on a full-width cross-pin, locked by a full-width bolt along the action floor that engages the barrel lumps, with coil-spring hammers on guide rods and an inertia single selective trigger. The monobloc barrels are chromed inside, back-bored with long forcing cones and chambered for 3 inches, and multichoke versions take Invector Plus tubes.

Chapter 03

Variants

The Game guns carry a 6 mm ventilated rib, the Sporters 10 mm and the Trap guns 13 mm with Briley chokes, in 12 and 20 bore with barrels of 28 to 32 inches. Browning’s line also holds the Composite, the engraved Exquisite and limited series such as Game Tradition and Hunter Black Gold.

Chapter 04

In the field

A 12-bore Game with 28-inch barrels weighs 7 lb 4 oz, and ShootingUK rates the 30-inch Sporter about as close to an all-rounder as there is — pigeons from a hide, wildfowl on the foreshore, walked-up days. Game versions have no automatic safety when the gun is opened, which a driven-hunt team should know before the first drive.
