Chapter 01

Overview

The first pump-action sold under the Browning name, shown to dealers on a 1977 price list at $209.95 and first offered in 12 gauge, later in 10, 16, 20 and 28 gauge and .410 as well. Its bottom-eject layout goes back to John Browning’s own design for the Remington Model 17.

Chapter 02

How it works

A milled steel receiver with a single port in its underside that both loads and ejects, which makes it truly ambidextrous, and a thumb safety on top of the receiver that works the same for either hand. Twin action bars connect bolt and forend, and a fork-style carrier lifts the shell instead of the solid lifter most pumps use.

Chapter 03

In the field

Field & Stream calls it a favourite of waterfowlers who value reliability above everything, with a four-shell magazine and Invector Plus chokes; it weighs 7 to 9 lb depending on gauge. In Sweden a single-barrelled shotgun loaded with slug may be used on wild boar, fallow deer, roe and mouflon out to 40 m, provided the hunter is qualified for a class 1 rifle.
