Chapter 01

Overview

Introduced in 2008 to carry forward the best of the A-Bolt, the X-Bolt is made for Browning by Miroku in Japan and grew to 28 chamberings. In January 2024 the second-generation X-Bolt 2 replaced it and production of the first ended.

Chapter 02

How it works

A three-lug bolt with a short 60-degree lift, an unlock button that lets a live round out with the safety still on, the adjustable three-lever Feather Trigger and a flush rotary magazine. The free-floated barrel is bedded at the front and rear of the action, and the name comes from the X-Lock scope mounts; the X-Bolt 2 brings a fluted bolt, a DLX trigger adjustable from 800 g to 1.3 kg and the Vari-Tech stock.

Chapter 03

Variants

The first generation ran from the Hunter and Medallion through the Micro Hunter, Stainless Stalker and Long Range Hunter to the Hells Canyon Max Long Range, with left-hand versions throughout. In Europe the X-Bolt 2 comes in three families: the Nordic, the Distance with 58–63 cm barrels for long range, and the Alpen with fluted barrels and Cerakoted metal for harsh climates.

Chapter 04

In the field

The Nordic range is built around a sound moderator, with 47–51 cm barrels that keep a suppressed rifle short on a moose stand or in a hunting tower. In .308 Win, .30-06 or .300 Win Mag it is Swedish class 1 for moose and boar, while .243 Win is class 2.
