Chapter 01

Overview

Introduced in 2010 to replace the 452, the 455 was built with new manufacturing technology for closer tolerances, and most versions were dropped in 2018 for the 457. CZ’s reason for the change was the 452’s sprawl — at one point 35 different receivers in production at once — and the 455’s answer, a swappable barrel, carried straight on into the 457.

Chapter 02

How it works

Instead of threading into the receiver, the barrel is held by two set screws, so a .22 LR, .22 WMR or .17 HMR barrel can be swapped and any 455 action drops into any 455 stock without modification. Barrels are hammer-forged and hand-lapped, the trigger adjusts for weight, and every version has a milled 11 mm dovetail for a scope.

Chapter 03

Variants

The Standard, Lux and Super Match with open sights, the Mannlicher-stocked FS, the 630 mm Lux II, Long and Ultra Match, the 726 mm Jaguar, and the 16-inch Scout. For scopes there was the walnut American with Synthetic and Stainless offshoots, and the heavy-barrelled Varmint family: Thumbhole, Evolution, Tacticool and Precision Trainer.

Chapter 04

In the field

The swap is the point for a Swedish hunter: .22 LR and .17 HMR are class 4, for rabbit, mink and birds such as grouse and pheasant, while .22 WMR is class 3 and adds hare and fox. One action, the right barrel for the day.
