Chapter 01

Overview

CZ’s current bolt-action rimfire, built to improve on the 455 and reported as new by RifleShooter in April 2020. It keeps the user-swappable barrel in .22 LR, .22 WMR and .17 HMR, and takes the magazines of the 452 and 455.

Chapter 02

How it works

Bolt throw dropped from 90 to 60 degrees so the handle clears a large scope, the action is almost an inch shorter, and the safety moved to the right of the receiver as a push-to-fire lever that still lets the bolt open. A lighter striker shortens lock time, a cocking indicator sits on the bolt, the stamped bottom metal gave way to a two-piece system, and every barrel is threaded ½″×20 UNF.

Chapter 03

Variants

CZ lists the walnut Lux with iron sights on the line’s longest, 630 mm barrel, the American and left-handed American, Varmint, MTR, Premium, Training Rifle, Hunter Veil and Hunter Strata. The 2020 Synthetic, Thumbhole and LRP added a polymer working rifle with a 412 or 525 mm barrel, a laminate thumbhole sporter and a heavy-barrelled long-range model.

Chapter 04

In the field

CZ pitches it for clearing vermin on a hunting ground and the Synthetic as a work rifle that shrugs off weather and long hours in a tractor. In Sweden .22 LR and .17 HMR are class 4 for rabbit, mink, grouse and pheasant; a .22 WMR barrel makes it class 3, which adds hare and fox.
