Chapter 01

Overview

CZ’s ‘mini-Mauser’ was in the catalogue from 1990 until 2021, when the CZ 600 series replaced it. It descends from the Koucký brothers’ post-war ZKW 465 Hornet and the ZKB 680 Fox in .222 Remington, of which 33,988 were built before production ended in 1989.

Chapter 02

How it works

A miniature Mauser action, offered with a plain trigger or a set trigger in both the German double-set and the more popular French single-set form. Calibres ran from .22 Hornet and .222 Remington through 7.62×39 and .223 to 6.5 Grendel and .300 Blackout.

Chapter 03

Variants

The European Lux, FS and Carbine with open sights and Bavarian-pattern Turkish walnut, the American, Varmint and Prestige for the US with 18 lpi checkering, plus Synthetic, Thumbhole, Varmint MTR, a left-handed model and the Ebony Edition. The Varmint Kevlar sat in an H-S Precision stock on an aluminium bedding block with a free-floated barrel.

Chapter 04

In the field

.222, .223 and 7.62×39 are Swedish class 2 calibres — roe deer and fox, but not moose, red deer or boar — though some 7.62×39 loads meet class 1. CZ’s own pitch is the one that sold it: a lightweight, accurate and reliable bolt-action hunting rifle.
