Chapter 01

Overview

Developed at Husqvarna in the 1960s and built there from 1967 to 1970, the 1900 earned a reputation for quality almost at once. When FFV bought the rifle business in 1970, production moved to Carl Gustaf in Eskilstuna as the Carl Gustaf 1900, largely unchanged, until 1979.

Chapter 02

How it works

One receiver length with four bolt-travel lengths matched to the cartridge, a walnut stock in Monte Carlo or classic shape, a side safety, and a five-round staggered internal magazine that does not detach. The trigger came direct or as a double set trigger, with a factory pull down to 1.5 kg.

Chapter 03

Variants

Standard, Monte Carlo, Monte Carlo Lux and a target model. A Husqvarna-made gun carries the crowned H and a serial starting with 3; “FFV-Husqvarna. Sweden” and a 5 marks the transition guns assembled in Eskilstuna; a Carl Gustaf stamp and a 6 is Eskilstuna-built. Italian Zoli copies exist and are not the same rifle.

Chapter 04

In the field

Still carried by tens of thousands of Swedish hunters, and on an ordinary moose team of twenty in Värmland, a gunsmith reckons at least five will have one on the shoulder. Factory calibres ran from .222 Remington to 9.3×62, and an original makes a good used buy once the barrel has been checked and the rifle test-fired.
