Chapter 01

Overview

Launched in 2003 by Mauser Jagdwaffen in Isny, the M 03 was Mauser’s answer to a brief: build a rifle with every classic Mauser attribute that still meets what a modern hunter expects. Mauser’s own history calls it the most innovative rifle it had made since the 98 and the 66.

Chapter 02

How it works

A steel action locking with six lugs, three interchangeable bolt heads for mini, standard and magnum cartridges, and a barrel held by two captive nuts so the rifle takes down for transport. It is cocked by hand just before the shot and can be decocked with a round chambered; the magazine inserts from below, loads from above in place, and holds up to 5+1.

Chapter 03

Variants

A modular line rather than one rifle: Basic, Solid, Extreme, Trail, Expert, Africa, Africa PH, Match, Target, Alpine, Stutzen, Stalker, Old Classic, De Luxe and English, every model also in true left-hand form. Mauser announced 20 calibres from .222 Rem to .375 H&H, and a 140-unit anniversary edition in 2012.

Chapter 04

In the field

One rifle can be a short rifle on a 47 cm barrel one season and a magnum the next: change the barrel, and change the bolt head when you cross calibre groups, without tools. Manual cocking means you carry it uncocked with a round chambered and cock it silently as you mount it.
