Chapter 01

Overview

The 47E is a side-by-side boxlock shotgun from Suhl, listed in the 1980 catalogue as the Model 8 with Holland & Holland ejectors added. Merkel’s 40E, shown at the 2016 SHOT Show as a simplified 47E without its ornamentation, replaced the case-coloured 47E.

Chapter 02

How it works

A self-cocking Anson & Deeley lock with a Greener crossbolt and double underlugs, double triggers, an automatic trigger and striker safety, and side pins that show when the locks are cocked. The 1980 catalogue gives 12, 16 and 20 bore with half and full choke, 710 mm barrels and plain arabesque engraving.

Chapter 03

Variants

The 147E was the same gun with a grey-finished action and ornamental engraving with game scenes; the sidelock counterparts of the period were the 47S and the 147S to 547S.
