Chapter 01

Overview

The K3 Stutzen is the full-stocked version of Merkel’s K-class single-shot break-action rifle, pairing a short rifle with a two-piece forend that runs the length of the barrel. Merkel sells it on handiness.

Chapter 02

How it works

It is a single-lock rifle locked steel on steel by the Suhl Jäger tilting block in a Duraluminium action, and cocked by hand with a silent cocking slide. The fine trigger adjusts in three steps of about 400, 600 and 800 g, and the gun weighs about 2.4 kg at 91 cm overall with a 50 cm barrel.

Chapter 03

Variants

The K3 also comes as a rifle with a 60 cm barrel from 2.5 kg and as the Extreme with a black action and gilded block and trigger, in engraving grades from Jagd through Jena, Weimar and Erfurt to Suhl. The K4 is the same idea with a steel action, from 2.7 kg as a Stutzen.

Chapter 04

In the field

Merkel names stalking, the raised hide and transport as where it shines, and the Suhl tilt-up mount holds the scope low and repeatably. Standard Stutzen calibres run from .243 Win, 7×57R and 7×65R through .270, .308 and .30-06 to 8×57IRS.
