Chapter 01

Overview

Launched in 2016, the 100 is Sauer’s entry-level rifle, built in the same factory as the Mauser M18 and sharing many parts with it. Sauer presents it as raising the standard of the entry class, with stock geometry carried over from the 404 and 101.

Chapter 02

How it works

Three lugs lock into a breech ring between barrel and receiver with a 60-degree throw, and unlike other Sauers the barrel is threaded in rather than press-fitted. The direct trigger adjusts from 1,000 to 2,000 g, a three-position safety lets the bolt be opened while the rifle is safe, barrels are cold hammer-forged in Isny, and the receiver takes Remington 700 pattern mounts.

Chapter 03

Variants

The Classic XT with the polymer Ergo Max stock, the Classic, Stainless XTA, Fieldshoot and Artemis, with Atacama, Ceratech, Cherokee and Pantera among the versions Wikipedia lists. The Classic XT covers .223 Rem in a mini action, .243 Win to 9.3×62 in standard, and 6.5 PRC, 7mm Rem Mag and .300 Win Mag as magnums.

Chapter 04

In the field

At about 3,050 g with a 510 mm barrel threaded M15×1 from the factory, five rounds in the standard magazine and 6.5×55, 8×57 IS and 9.3×62 on the list, the Classic XT covers ordinary Nordic moose and deer hunting. Sauer’s argument for it is value: its own page calls the price-to-performance ratio unrivalled.
