Chapter 01

Overview

The BBF 97 is Blaser’s over-and-under combination gun, one shotgun barrel and one rifle barrel in a single system, sold beside the BBF 95 as the double-lock half of the pair. Blaser frames the type around mixed hunting, where shot is sometimes the only safe choice.

Chapter 02

How it works

The 97 has two strikers and two springs, so the second barrel fires at once without recocking; the barrels float freely and a gunsmith can regulate them together, notably for slug accuracy. It is cocked by hand just before the shot, decocks when opened, and in 12/76 and 20/76 it is proofed for steel shot.

Chapter 03

Variants

The BBF 95 is the same gun with a single lock: only one spring to cock, and it decocks itself after a single shot. Both carry textured sideplates and grade 3 wood as standard, with a left-hand stock as an option.

Chapter 04

In the field

Blaser recommends the 97 to hunters who often get the chance of a fast second shot and the 95 to those who value simpler handling. Either way it is the gun for a mixed day — a shot barrel for what flies or runs close, a rifle barrel for the deer further out.
