Chapter 01
Overview
The R8 replaced the R93 in 2008 and is the straight-pull that convinced continental Europe to give up the turn-bolt. One rifle takes barrels from .222 to .500 Jeffery, and the bolt head and magazine change with them.
Chapter 02
How it works
A radial collet expands into a groove in the barrel itself, so the barrel is the locking abutment and the receiver carries no load. The bolt travels straight back and forward, the trigger and magazine come out as one unit, and there is no safety catch — a manual cocking slide leaves the striker uncocked until the moment before the shot.
Chapter 03
Variants
Professional, Success, Ultimate and the carbon-stocked models, plus a barrel catalogue that turns one serial number into a deer rifle, a boar rifle and a safari rifle. Switching barrels does not lose zero, which is the claim the whole system rests on.
Chapter 04
In the field
Driven game above all: the short straight-pull stroke lets a second shot go without the rifle leaving the shoulder. Travelling hunters buy it for a different reason — one action in the case and three barrels beside it.
