Chapter 01

Overview

CZ’s tried-and-true gas-operated semi-automatic shotgun, a Turkish-made gun sold through CZ-USA, now in its third generation. CZ pitches the G3 as an all-rounder for upland game, waterfowl and clays, and American Rifleman calls it an improvement on an already solid G2.

Chapter 02

How it works

A lightweight alloy receiver takes 2¾- and 3-inch 12-bore shells, and two interchangeable pistons — one with fluted ribs for light and medium loads, the other for heavy — keep it cycling across the range. The G3 bore grew to .735 inch with extended Active-Choke tubes, the safety moved to the front of the trigger guard, the bolt handle and release were oversized for gloves, and a shim kit sets cast and drop.

Chapter 03

Variants

The walnut-stocked 712 G3 in 26- or 28-inch chrome-lined barrels with a 7 mm ventilated rib, and the synthetic-stocked Utility and Synthetic Camo Terra.

Chapter 04

In the field

American Rifleman shot it on upland birds and from a floating blind for duck with every load cycling, and found it quick to the shoulder from a low hold. In Sweden kaliber 12 is cleared for all shotgun hunting, roe deer with shot included.
