Chapter 01

Overview

Heym introduced its Express magnum action in 1986, and in 2013 German-born custom builder Ralf Martini redesigned the rifle’s stock and profile for its 25th anniversary, after the best English sporting rifles made between the wars. It is Heym’s big-bore bolt-action, built for the largest African calibres.

Chapter 02

How it works

A Mauser-pattern action larger than a magnum Mauser — a 0.785-inch bolt against the standard ’98’s 0.700 — with controlled-round feed, a claw extractor and a three-position side-swing safety. Each action and its one-piece drop-box magazine (4+1) are machined for one specific cartridge, and the 24-inch barrel is hammer-forged in-house.

Chapter 03

In the field

Heym chambers it in .375 H&H, .416 Rigby, .404 Jeffery, .458 Lott and .450 Rigby, with a barrel contour per calibre to keep the weight between the hands at 9 to 10.5 lb. Options such as a flip-up night sight with a large bead for low light and claw scope mounts set it up for the quick shot.
